The Marine Protected Area, through the project 'MASTER' and with the contribution of Bolton Alimentari s.p.a., provided for the positioning of 96 anti-trawling bollards on the seabeds of the three main islands, within the bathymetric of 50 m., so as to reduce illegal inshore trawling
The Managing Body set up a plan for monitoring at sea - supported by the same Body - to be implemented in the period 2013-2016, in order to assess the effectiveness of the bollards, their state and the presence of tools that might help reduce any occurring phenomena of "ghost fishing". The sampling methodology was formulated under the scientific supervision of Enea (Dott.ssa Silvia Cocito and Andrea Peirano). The activity of underwater monitoring of the anti-trawiling bollards was a periodical one and comprised a winter campaign, to be carried in December, and a spring campaign, conducted in June. Each campaign included n. 6 excursions at sea, which were performed along the transects identified by the MPA under the operational protocol established by ENEA, and they involved the collection of data regarding Posidonia oceanica and the population along the water column as well as the presence of benthic population.
