MONK SEAL OBSERVATORY
The project aimes to monitor the presence of any specimen of Monk Seal within the Egadi Island MPA.
The Observatory, operating since 2014 and located within the monumental Castle of Punta Troia in Marettimo, is a space dedicated to the conducting of research aimed at the study of the Monk Seal and, in summer, it becomes an info point and a centre open to guided tours.
The research activity involves the positioning of camera-traps in Favignana and Levanzo.
The results so far achieved have shown the presence in winter of at least one specimen of Monk Seal.
