CLIMATE AND ENVIRONMENTAL MONITORING

OR1 Observation Facilities for environmental climate monitoring in collaboration with the Marine Protected Area of the Egadi Islands.

The Goal I (objective to be achieved) aims to enhance the national climate-and-environmental observation network, by bringing about changes to the facilities present in the Convergence regions.

This objective involves changes to the observation facilities and to the technological equipment for climate-and-environmental monitoring - to be achieved by physico-chemical measurements of the atmosphere (in situ and vertical profiles) - as well as to the parameters relating to the agricultural and forest ecosystems, on different time and space scales.

The information gathered for their direct use by the territorial administrations will be made available so that stakeholders can obtain useful data for the protection of the delicate and valuable ecosystems and of a territory which is subject to significant environmental and climatic changes, as well as for the management of possible acute events. In this perspective, it is important to study the functional processes and interactions with the atmosphere of some of the most important and wide agri-forest ecosystems in our country, even in order to better define the management options. As part of the improvement of the facilities, particular importance is also given to the enhancement of data-processing by means of high performance computing systems. At the same time, it is important to store any information, data and images acquired within the I-AMICA network in an information system (Geonetwork) and to make it easily accessible to different users also through georeferenced web platforms.

In order to enable the national research system to increase its attractiveness, capacity and competitiveness at international level, the Goal I of the I-AMICA project proposes a strengthening of the national observatory network thanks to the adaptation and improvement of the facilities present in Convergence regions.
